Communities as role models for more biodiversity
ELER funding project
Thanks to the initiative of many associations nature conservation is certainly a relevant topic in many Burgenland communities. However, it is often not well known how and where, specifically in residential areas or on public land, measures to promote biodiversity can be implemented. Through intensive nature conservation advice three selected communities in Burgenland were supported in this project to use their potential to promote biodiversity on public land. Planning and implementation of biodiversity-promoting measures were developed together with the respective community. Creatively designed information signs, which appeared in various places in the community for a short time informed the population about the measures that had been implemented. Through publicly accessible work days, on which for example maintenance work was carried out on valuable areas or through Sunday walks, during which the content of the information signs was communicated in more detail to the community residents, the population was sensitized to nature conservation issues and motivated to become active themselves. The communities acted as model regions and gained experience in implementing the measures that can be used by other interested communities.
