Evaluation of the ÖPUL measure "Silage abandonment" (2020)

Client: Province of Salzburg, Province of Tyrol, Province of Styria, Province of Vorarlberg

Using 18 test farms from Salzburg, Tyrol and Styria, we investigated how different management methods affect grassland habitats and biodiversity, particularly with regard to frequency of use and cutting time. In addition, the diversity of vegetation height and structure as well as the individual density and biomass of locusts, bugs and cicadas were recorded in order to assess the effect of management on biodiversity.
