Biodiversity Dialogue and Biodiversity Strategy 2030

What is at issue?

As the national biodiversity strategy in force until then expired in 2020, the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (then BMLRT), together with the Federal Environment Agency, launched a comprehensive, national participatory process in 2019.

What is the benefit?

In the framework of biodiversity dialogues, the current challenges and contributions of the various sectors such as nature conservation, tourism or agriculture to the conservation of biodiversity were discussed together with experts from relevant disciplines. More than 150 experts accepted this invitation. This participatory process was complemented by public consultation through an online survey. The broad participation of people from a wide range of professions and their approaches to biodiversity conservation provided further valuable food for thought.

The results of these comprehensive, participatory national processes formed the foundation for the development of a new Biodiversity Strategy 2030 for Austria.
