Exceptional nature conservation day in Graz

We enjoyed the privilege of organizing and conducting an extraordinary symposium in the city of Graz. Everything revolved around the discovery of new perspectives on controversial issues in nature conservation. We shed light on the margins and outer realms of viewpoints, which allowed us to learn about new perspectives. These had significant impact on the participants, either because they strengthened our own positions or because they made us more open to embrace the perspective of others.

Six high-level speakers commented on topics such as "Wilderness or Culture?", "Knowledge or Emotion?" and "Foreign or Native?” from different perspectives. The audience had the opportunity to anonymously create paper tweets while a trombone and a cello picked up on and reflected contrasts and contradictions. Small groups discussed the positions in successive rounds of speed dating, and everything was captured in caricatures by our brilliant illustrator Geert Gratama. It was an unforgettable experience for the participants.
