Original project title:
Evaluation of the Austrian Rural Development Programme 2007-2013 in the sector of mountain pastures.
Numerous site-based and project-based measures under the rural development programme are available to farmers, for example agri-environmental payments, or transport infrastructure or
education. The landscape mountain pasture should therefore be maintained and developed further.
By order of the Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management, the project team studies how rural development measures comply with the programme objectives. To examine the ecological, economic and socio-cultural impacts of the measures and the interactions between different measures, all alp-relevant measures have been included within the evaluation.
The project should result in specific inputs and recommendations for the new design of the Austrian Rural Development Programme which will set important future directions for the mountain
pastures.
In the first project year, the contribution of the measures to individual farms, mountain pastures and regions will be examined. In the second project year, the results will be analysed in workshops from which specific suggestions for modification of the forthcoming programming period will be derived. Experts with local and regional knowledge as well as colleagues from other alpine Member States will be invited to the workshops. Exchange of information and experience as well as discussions between Ministries, Federal States, stakeholders, NGOs and farmers will contribute to an effective evaluation.
The progress of the project is presented in our EVALM Newsletter.
